Ducting AHU (Air Handling Unit) is an air duct system that functions to channel, distribute, and circulate air that has been conditioned by the AHU machine to various rooms within the building. If the AHU is the "heart" that processes the air (cooling, filtering, and regulating humidity), then the ducting is the "blood vessels" that circulate that air. This system is usually used in large-scale buildings such as malls, hospitals, office buildings, or factories.
Function and operation of AHU Ducting:
- Supply Air (Incoming Air). AHU cools and filters clean air, then blows it into the room thru a channel called the Supply Duct.
- Distribution. Air exits into the room thru terminals called diffusers or grilles.
- Return Air (Return Air). The air that has already been used in the room is drawn back thru the Return Duct to the AHU to be filtered and cooled again, or partially expelled outside the building (exhaust).
